Bodie Island Prescribed Burn (Prescribed Fire)
On Friday, February 3, 2012, National Park Service fire management staff, as part of the Outer Banks Group Fire Management Plan, will conduct a prescribed burn on Bodie Island within Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The planned burn will consist of 635 acres located west of NC Highway 12, south of the Bodie Island Access Road and north of Oregon Inlet.The intent of the burn is to reduce fuel loading in the area as well as restore vegetative communities.In order to safely accomplish the burn, …
Rock 100 (Prescribed Fire)
Prescribed fire operations will begin on Thursday, February 2 in the vicinity of Rock Road and 11 Mile Road, north of Highway 41. Operations will be focused on treatment around 6 red-cockaded woodpecker nesting trees, called Colony 100. Burnout operations will also occur, in preparation for aerial ignitions at a later date.
Holly Hill Prescribed Fire (Prescribed Fire)
Fire personnel at Natchez Trace Parkway along with the assistance of AmeriCorps conducted three prescribed burns on the Natchez Trace Parkway. The one day event included two grassland units and one woodland unit.
